In 1971, Rubens Paiva, a former congressman and outspoken critic of Brazil’s military dictatorship, was taken from his home in Rio de Janeiro by government officials and disappeared. It’s told from the perspective of Rubens’ wife, whose indefatigable search for the truth about her husband would stretch out for decades. A true story, this portrays human tenacity in the face of injustice.
This is headstrong, heartfelt world cinema at its finest. – Leigh Paatsch, Herald Sun
One of the most powerful films I have seen on the subject, treating it with respect and intimacy, I’m Still Here is a punch to the gut, but a good one. – Ard Vijn, Screenanarchy
