Amrum is a deeply moving, historical drama about a 12-year-old boy who, in the shadow of the fading German regime, discovers the true enemy is far closer than he imagined. The film is based on the true events of its screen-writer, Hark Bohm’ s childhood on the German island of Amrum during the last months of World War II.
Like Taika Waititi’s 2019 film, Jojo Rabbit, Amrum tracks a young Nazi boy’s reverse indoctrination and moral awakening during the last gasp of the Second World War.
A visually striking tale of a childhood spent during wartime and on the wrong side of history, hitting all the right emotional beats while still having something interesting to say.
