Based on Claire Keegan’s beautiful, award-winning novel, Small Things Like These, this film is a story of family life, kindness, community and moral responsibility. Bill Furlong is a hardworking, aspirational father of 5 daughters who uncovers disturbing secrets in his small Irish town which is dominated by the Roman Catholic Church.
Set in the 1980s and starring, Emma Watson, Ciaran Hinds and Cillian Murphy as Bill Furlong, this film is dedicated to the female victims of the Magdalene Laundries.
Murphy’s performance is a study of compassion and survival, in the ways one’s own traumatic experience might lead to empathy instead of cyclical abuse. – Luke Goodsell, ABC
