The film follows two brokers (Song Kang-ho and Gang Dong-won), who sell orphaned infants, circumventing the bureaucracy of legal adoption, to affluent couples who can’t have children of their own. After an infant’s mother (K-pop star Ji-eun Lee), surprises the duo by returning to ensure her child finds a good home, the three embark on a journey to find the right couple, building an unlikely family of their own.
Wryly funny and compassionate, Broker ponders the ethics of adoption with nuanced and delicate character studies.
The film is suffused with humour as the members of this odd family gradually become closer. There are some lovely, delicately handled scenes, the type of scene at which this director is adept. – David Stratton, The Australian
Broker is nothing if not a film of surprises… a swaddled-up mix of road movie, social realism, crime cliffhanger and even knockabout comedy. Genres collide. A little like life. – Danny Lee, Financial Times
