It often takes a tragedy to force us to do something we have always wanted to. Suze Trappet is dying. Aerosols have ruined the 43-year-old’s lungs and ovaries, the result of continued exposure during her hairdressing career. While facing up to her own mortality, Suze is determined to track down the son she was forced to give up almost three decades earlier. Unfortunately, French bureaucracy has stymied her efforts at every turn. She blackmails a computer genius who conveniently works for Internal Affairs, to help track him down. Along with blind archivist Mr. Blin, the trio set out on an astonishing adventure outrunning the anti-terrorist police to discover the true meaning of love.
This is a surprisingly taut, deliciously black comedy which offers a crowd-pleasing mix of dystopian nightmare and French farce at its finest.
Bye Bye Morons has appealed to the French propensity for sticking it to authority. A box-office hit, it’s also won seven Cesars, including best picture and best director. – Sandra Hall, SMH
Bye Morons takes on modern-day intellectual parochialism through an adventure that will have you in stitches as it pits imaginative up-to-date heroics against the inevitability of accidents, death, and the civil service. – John P Harvey, BMA
