The Australian Dream is a theatrical feature documentary that uses the remarkable and inspirational story of AFL legend Adam Goodes as the prism through which to tell a deeper and more powerful story about race, identity and belonging. Written and narrated by Stan Grant, it takes us from Goodes’ early days to his treatment later in his career and explores the institutionalisation of racism in the country. Goodes, a passionate advocate for Indigenous causes, was treated abysmally by the media and sporting crowds later in his career when he began calling out behaviour that he no longer wished to tolerate.
Emotive, inspiring and argumentative, driven by a clear desire for justice and equality.- Luke Buckmaster, Guardian
Unlike the recent TV doco The Final Quarter, Goodes himself is an active presence in The Australian Dream, giving a clear, strident and soulful voice to what he and others have gone through as indigenous Australians. – Leigh Paatsch, Herald Sun
The loudest voices are just loud. And this is the surprising and welcome thing about The Australian Dream. In the end, it is a story of optimism and hope. – Stephen Romei, The Australian
