Milena travels to a remote opal mining community to see her estranged, ill father. Lost and alone, she falls into his bewildering world, where men escape society and share ideals of freedom. Soon, he doesn’t want her to leave. Stuck in time, father and daughter try to mend their fractured bond, but their connection is fragile, like the strange, colourful gems he digs up from the earth.

REVIEWS:

“A very specific sense of place comes across strongly in Lodkina’s minimalist yet striking film.” – David Stratton, The Australian

“From the quietly exhilarating first cut – the pristine night sky above to an otherworldly mechanical excavation below ground – Strange Colours reveals a natural filmmaker who brings her own vision to the Australian landscape. ” – Craig Mathieson, The Sunday Age

“It is tantalising to consider what the director might come up with working with a more pronounced narrative. But subsequent films made in the style of Strange Colours are also an exciting proposition.” Luke Buckmaster, Guardian
